Sports Business Undergraduate Minor/Graduate Certificate Program

New! Connect to a Sports Career

Introducing the Pamplin School of Business Sports Business Undergraduate Minor/Graduate Certificate Program.

The Sports Business minor, a 12-credit program, provides a comprehensive overview of business within the sports industry. This program is open to all UP students.

Through a combination of classroom learning, real-world experiences, and networking opportunities, students will be prepared to pursue careers in the arenas of product creation, event marketing, or sports property management. Students will gain a broad understanding of the sports industry to complement their field of study, covering topics such as sports marketing, sports finance, sports law, strategy, and analytics.

What is it?

The Sports Business minor, a 12-credit program offered through University of Portland’s Pamplin School of Business, provides a comprehensive overview of business within the sports industry. Post-baccalaureate students can follow the same program and earn a Sports Business graduate certificate.

Who is it for?

The program is open to all UP students and is particularly ideal for sports enthusiasts—from players to fans—who want to pursue careers related to the sports industry. The coursework also complements many majors outside of the business school. For example, biology, nursing, or engineering students interested in careers as health coaches, physical therapists, or exercise physiologists can benefit from understanding the business side of the sports industry.

Career Readiness

The global sports market is rapidly growing and expected to be valued at over $440 billion by 2025. Along with that growth comes a variety of sports-related career opportunities. Students with a minor or graduate certificate in Sports Business from UP will have a breadth of relevant knowledge and experience, giving them a leg up on the competition for jobs in the industry, such as with athletic apparel brands and competitive sports teams.
