Personal Selling Certificate

The University of Portland offers students a rewarding certificate to compliment their degree. Students shall learn how to engage buyers, throughout their journey, from both a marketing and personal perspective. Additionally, the underlying mechanics of the tools used by today’s top revenue-generating businesses will be dissected to provide students with a technical perspective before joining the workforce. The four course certificate includes the following courses:

1.  Marketing Operations: The Marketing Operations course combines marketing and selling principals to show how the two complement each other to produce real-world revenue impact. Students shall develop professional marketing and selling skills, including identifying, developing and justifying a sales channel, the growth of a marketing department, and the reporting needs of various stakeholders.

2. Personal Selling: The Personal Selling course is a professional marketing activity with a special focus on the fundamentals of consultative selling. Students shall develop professional selling skills, including identifying and qualifying prospects, discovering customer needs, developing and making a sales presentation, handling objections, and closing a sale. Holistically, selling is critical to the purpose and nature of Marketing.  

3. Marketing Automation: The Marketing Automation course demonstrates the purpose of automating repetitive marketing actions that span multiple channels such as email, social media, websites and more. Students shall learn the tipping points for organizations before they begin to automate actions and optimize workflows, as well as when to introduce technology.

4. Customer Relationship Management (CRM): The Customer Relationship Management course takes a top-up / bottom-down approach to understanding the operational effectiveness provided by CRM systems. Course material is crafted from the perspective of a sales professional, sales operations and sales management. Students shall learn the tipping points for organizations before they begin to leverage a CRM system, as well as when to introduce technology.

Admission Requirements

To be admitted to this program, students must hold a bachelor’s degree to obtain a Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Business Analytics, or graduate business degree, from an AACSB accredited institution, to obtain a Post Graduate Certificate in Business Analytics:

  1. Current resume
  2. Official transcripts (from all previously attended academic institutions)
  3. Online application form
