Our alumni graduate ready to make a lasting impact in the world. An education from the Pamplin School of Business provides students with an ethical framework, a broad professional network, and a global business perspective. Graduates are leaders in the business world; they are entrepreneurs and CEOs, innovators and CFOs. In 2009, to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Pamplin School of Business, we inducted eight visionary leaders into the inaugural Hall of Fame and honored 75 significant business alumni.

A Distinguished Alum Returns to the Bluff
Alan P. Timmins ’81, VP Financial Affairs, University of Portland
Before starting his tenure as the University of Portland’s newest Vice President for Financial Affairs, Alan Timmins had retired as president and chief operating officer of AVI BioPharma, a global leader in the discovery and development of RNA-based drugs utilizing an extensive proprietary technology platform with applications to a range of diseases and genetic disorders. Timmins says he enjoyed working with bright scientists and in this area of biotechnology, which has an “incredible potential to help mankind.” |
| Timmins is a 1981 graduate of the University of Portland and during his time on the Bluff, Timmins served on the Board of Regents as a student representative and remembers early plans to construct the Chiles Center. During his time as a student, Timmins says he developed from a shy, introverted freshman into an outgoing, self-confident graduate. His parents, he says, instilled in him a love of education, and this love has been especially apparent in recent years when Timmins volunteered his time and expertise to current business students through the Pamplin Professional Preparation Program (P4). His main advice to business students: “Take your passion and make it happen. Leave things better than you found them. Produce more than you consume.” |
|
| On his full-time return to the Bluff, Timmins says “The University of Portland holds a special place in my heart. To be able to come back to the University and take part in its future development and success is a dream come true.” The Bluff is excited to have you back, too! | |
