MBA: Graduate Programs Faculty

Each faculty member in the Pamplin School of Business is dedicated to continually improving his or her curriculum to include cutting edge technology, social media, and the latest academic research developments in their classes. The quantity and quality of research by the Pamplin School of Business faculty is impressive. Click here to see a sampling of their recent publications and presentations.

In addition to being outstanding scholars, our faculty are leading innovators, consultants, and advisors. They include Arjun Chatrath, the Art Schulte Distinguished Professor who is recognized as one of the world's top finance research scholars by the Journal of Finance Literature, and Bahram Adrangi, who, in August 2012, was named the first Walter E Nelson Distinguished Professor.

Also in August 2012, the Pamplin School of Business welcomed three new, tenure-track faculty members. You can learn about each of their individual backgrounds and research and teaching interests below.

Dr. Ross Hanig, Assistant Professor of Economics Ross Hanig is the newest full-time faculty member of the Economics Group in the Pamplin School of Business Administration. He has presented his research at international, national, and regional conferences including annual meetings of the European Society for Population Economics, the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association, and the Midwest Economics Association. His current research interests include regional economics, environmental and resource economics, behavioral economics, development economics, wage and employment inequality, and human rights.

Dr. Madhuparna Kolay, Assistant Professor of Finance Dr. Madhuparna Kolay is one of the newest full-time faculty member in the Pamplin School of Business Administration at the University of Portland. She joined the school after receiving her PhD in Finance from the University of Utah. Prior to earning her PhD, Dr. Kolay was working for an investment banking firm in the Fiji Islands. Her work experience includes working with very small firms to medium sized firms in emerging markets. Her professional affiliations include the American Finance Association, Financial Management Association and the Eastern Finance Association. Dr. Kolay's research and teaching activities are focused on the areas of corporate finance and she is particularly interested in, and has researched on, the economic effects of corporate distress and bankruptcy.

Dr. Min Yu, Assistant Professor of Operations and Technology Management Dr. Min Yu is one of the newest full-time faculty members in the Pamplin School of Business Administration at the University of Portland. Dr. Yu received her Ph.D. in Business Administration with a concentration in Management Science in the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She received an M.E. in Transportation Planning and Management from the School of Transportation Engineering, Tongji University, China, in 2008 and graduated with top honors and a Bachelor's Degree in Transportation Engineering from the same school in 2005.

Dr. Yu's teaching interests include: technology and operations management, supply chain management, decision modeling, optimization, and inventory management. Her research interests include: transportation networks, supply chain networks, game theory, risk management and network optimization. She focuses on time-sensitive supply chains with applications ranging from fashion to pharmaceuticals, and food.

Several of her research papers have appeared or are in press in such journals as: the European Journal of Operational Research, the International Journal of Production Economics, Transportation Research E, Papers in Regional Science, and Computational Management Science. In 2011, she received the Outstanding Doctoral Student Researcher Award from the Isenberg School of Management. In addition, she served as the President, Vice President, and Webmaster of the award-winning INFORMS Student Chapter at the University of Massachusetts Amherst from 2008 to 2011.
