Wait, what do you mean midterms are coming up?

It’s reaching that time of year again! Midterms. The devil in test form! How quickly it jumps out and ruins your day. It’s hard to believe it’s already been five weeks since the start of the semester. Where did that time go? Why do I feel like I’m starting freshman year all over again?! Generally, this is where a panic attack ensues, and I reminisce about the summer and times when I was allowed to forget all about this learning stuff!

Needless to say, I’ve made it this far and I can do it again. I would not describe myself as a perfect student but I think I do have a strong work ethic when not distracted by Facebook (FACEBOOOK. Ugh! Why do you exist?!). That’s another piece of advice I would give to incoming freshman. Know when to turn the internet off.

I have this small problem of not knowing how to do that. There always seems to be a little tab open on my browser with the gateway to studying doom. I made a promise to myself that I would get better at saying no. And I have! The thing that bothers me about it is that I’m still tempted to open it and I wonder how awful this addiction must have been last semester.

With only 21 days till spring break – and I may or may not have a countdown running – I’m reminded that school isn’t always going to be a happy slice of pie. Especially when you’re taking 18 credits. Sometimes I ask myself what was running through my brain during registration. I distinctly remember thinking ‘8 classes? No problem!’. I may have not been thinking that one through completely.

Now I just have to remind myself that there are only 11 weeks left in the semester. We can do this! This can happen! I’m not going to be destroyed. Facebook Tetris will not own my life and I will refuse to Facebook stalk people I don’t even know! This can happen, right? Somebody tell me it can. I’m stronger than the internet.

Maybe.

On a last note to all you incoming freshman – start thinking about your study abroad programs! Applications are due only a month after you start school. The programs are amazing and SO worth it. I’ve already started a mental packing list and I don’t even leave for another seven months.
