Back From Fall Break!
I know that it’s been a while since my last post, but that’s because I was too busy enjoying my fall break! Last Friday, everyone went their separate ways with their own plans of fun and excitement for a deserved break from school and classes. Many went home to New York, California, Utah, and every other state (or country!) imaginable, but a fair number of students stay in Portland and enjoy relaxing in an environment that at times can be associated with stress. I went to the Oregon Coast with a few friends for the first weekend, and after driving back to Portland I went up to Seattle for a few days to visit my friends and family up north. Needless to say, my break was amazing, but now it’s time to get back to business (pun intended)!
Though there is always homework that can be done, college wouldn’t be college without having a social life, would it? This is my view, and I am a definite proponent of the “work-life balance” concept. Aside from school, my rough schedule for this week is as follows: Christian Business Students Association (CBSA) meeting tonight, Frisbee and Soccer games Wednesday night, going out to dinner with a friend Thursday after hitting the driving range, and traveling to Central Oregon this upcoming weekend to play in a soccer tournament. Now if this doesn’t sound fun, I don’t know what does!
Stress is a normal part of being a college student, but that shouldn’t be something that defines you during your undergraduate studies. The classes that students take at UP are very demanding because it’s such a prestigious university, and so it’s very important to master time-management so that academic classes are not one’s sole focus. While we’re learning the skills necessary to make us stand out in the job market upon graduation, we are also learning about life in general and what better way to do that than to take advantage of social opportunities during our time here!

Major: Accounting and Finance
Favorite PSOBA Prof: Dr. Gary Mitchell
Favorite PSOBA class: Decision Modeling (BUS 355)
Why I chose UP: The available extracurricular activities - both on campus and in the community. There is always something going on on-campus, and sporting events (the Blazers) and outdoor activities (snowboarding at Mt. Hood and hiking Multnomah Falls) within easy distance.
Favorite thing about UP: Everything! The professors, classes, social life, and everything about being a college student in a big city!
